Scrap Iron and Metals

All scrap materials are received at Hringrás’ reception. Toxic and hazardous materials are first separated before the remaining metals are compressed to aid storage and transport purposes. At Hringrás, we ensure that we only deal with authorized partners.

The following is list of metals that Hringrás receives:

  • Steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Aluminum
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Lead
  • Zinc

The metals we receive are classified by the following categories:

Category I: Large pieces of steel and steel sheets of more than 3mm thickness, without other contaminants or mixture other than steel.

Category II: Steel plates of less than 3mm thickness, without any other contaminants or mixture other than steel.

Category III: Material mainly composed of metal, but contains other contaminants such as plastic, glass, paint, wood, etc.

“Mixed Material” Category: Metal objects with significant amount of contaminants.

 

Batteries and Hazardous Waste

To provide a comprehensive service, Hringrás also accepts car batteries and other types of hazardous waste. Products are first separated according to their material and any toxic waste is disposed of according to the environmental rules and regulations in Iceland or abroad.

 

Tires

In addition to metal recycling, Hringrás also processes used tires from all types of vehicles. The tires are first shredded to smaller pieces to aid with transportation and are exported abroad for further recycling.
